Kick off 2015 by revamping your diet. Incorporating these cancer fighting foods can prevent about 60% of cancer related deaths. Adding them into your diet can be as simple as switching out your breakfast taco for a smoothie, or putting down the cupcake and picking up a piece of fruit. These simple lifestyle changes can help you make the most of a new year and prevent cancer in the process.

Looking to make the switch to a healthier lifestyle? Try eating and drinking a few of these cancer preventing super foods. While they can’t 100% prevent cancer, what they can do is help you stay fit, keep your weight down and provide you with the nutrients needed to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Step up your nutrition game and make a few simple adjustments that will pay off in the long run.

Dark leafy greens – Spinach and kale are great examples of leafy greens. They contain lutein and vitamin A, and are known to play a part in preventing breast cancer. Blend these along with your favorite fruits or other vegetables to create a healthy green smoothie.

Green tea – It’s great for calming your nerves and an added bonus is it contains antioxidents like polyphenols can help prevent breast, prostate, colon, stomach and skin cancer. Warm or cold green tea can do wonders for your body.

Tomatoes – Break out the salad! Include tomatoes are great sources of lycopene which can help protect against prostate, breast and lung and stomach cancer. Note - Cooked tomatoes contain much more lycopene, so if you’re eating a bowl of spaghetti don’t feel bad about the carbs because the spaghetti sauce is actually good for you.

Cruciferous Vegetables – These vegetables are from the cabbage family, and include broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage. Adding them to your diet is beneficial so be sure to pick up some of these super foods for your next side.

Red wine – Good news! Wine is good for you! In moderation that is – because it contains resveratrol that has been shown to prevent prostate, skin and breast cancer. If you’re a woman, feel free to indulge in one 5 ounce glass per day, and if you’re a man treat yourself to an extra glass.

Nuts – Not just a snack food, but a super food! Almonds, cashews, walnuts, chestnuts and pistachios contain the antioxidant vitamin E which makes it a great cancer fighting snack. Make sure to keep a stash of custom made trail mix with these fancy nuts close at hand.

Garlic – Don’t be afraid to season! The components found in garlic help prevent stomach, colon, esophageal, pancreas, skin lungs and breast cancer. So when in doubt ease off the salt and add a little minced garlic to any dish for flavor and for its preventative properties.
