Men’s health is important – that’s why the entire month of June is dedicated to empowering men to make better choices to live long and productive lives. Developing better eating habits is one of those things that a man (or any member of your family) can do to immediately make a difference in their lifestyle. Eating healthy prevents high cholesterol and high blood pressure, and has also been proven to reduce the risk of developing diseases like cardiovascular issues, cancer and diabetes.

Eating foods that are rich in nutrients can reduce the risk of osteoporosis, iron deficiency and dental cavities. One of the best things about eating healthy is it reduces the risk of obesity, which puts less strain on your internal organs and can help motivate that special man (or young adult) in your life to work out on a regular basis. Living healthy and eating clean doesn’t have to be bland – there are plenty of natural spices and recipes that provide flavor and nutrients. Even your average “meat and potatoes” man will be satisfied by swapping out unhealthy ingredients for more nutrient-rich fruits and vegetables.

Skip out on the pasta by investing in a vegetable spiralizer or substituting spaghetti squash. Turkey when cooked correctly can replace red meat while still allowing you to create delicious and flavorful meals. Institute a day to eat a vegetarian meal. A portabella steak is a great substitute and is just as filling as a Porterhouse. It’s all about finding a healthy balance between food that you love and food that does wonders for your body. Incorporate a smoothie into your daily food intake or revel in the wonder of juicing. Making small changes at first can help you stick to a healthier lifestyle.

So skip the fast food and opt for a healthier way of life. Eating healthy makes you feel great and will help you live a long and fulfilling life.
